Building the Commune: Envisioning Destitution and Composition in Chicago Struggles

  • Flood's Hall 1515 East 52nd Place Chicago, IL, 60615 United States (map)

On Tues 11/5 join us for a discussion of movements built edge-to-edge, without leaders or center, through a process the comrades at the ZAD called “composition”. What lessons might this method have for US struggles?

Readings from Kristen Ross’ “The Long 1960s and ‘The Wind from the West’” and “The ZAD and NO TAV” by Mauvaise Troupe Collective. Our aim will be to discuss potential struggles in Chicago (e.g. against development in the city) in terms of destituent composition.

Building the Commune is a twice-monthly discussion group in Chicago focusing on questions of revolution, autonomy and collective liberation. Beyond the readings themselves, these meetings provide an opportunity to think and strategize together about our own projects and desires. Meeting locations will fluctuate during the fall.
